About the College
- The Institute of Mental Health (IMH), Chennai, is one of the oldest and largest mental‑health hospitals/institutions in India.
- It began as an asylum in the late 18th century under British rule; over the decades it evolved into a full psychiatric hospital and later attained “Institute” status.
- Today IMH serves as a government‑run mental‑health institution providing psychiatric care, rehabilitation, and also offers training / academic programs including at least a post‑graduate diploma in psychiatric nursing.
